I love myself a nice steaming glass of hot cocoa anytime during the winter months, but tell me its full of protein, gives me a little energy boost, and has 0g added sugar? uhhhhh YES PLEASE!!!
This has been my morning magic elixir for the past few weeks, and I am overjoyed to share it with you too. I’ve add links to all my favorite products from this recipe below.. and yes, I do get commissions for them. But you’re welcome to go through the links I’ve provided (I’m not going to pretend like I don’t like the commission), or you’re welcome to go look these up through amazon! Either way, they’re awesome products and I’m happy to be sharing them with you!
Protein & Energy Packed Peppermint Hot Cocoa
Hot Cocoa
1 Cup Fair Life 2% milk (or water if preferred)
1 Scoop Perk Energy White Chocolate Peppermint Pretzel https://amzn.to/4sFv3Tk
Whipped Cream
1 cup whipping cream
1-2 Tablespoons monk fruit sugar replacement https://amzn.to/4pC83lg
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (or use vanilla for versatile use on various hot cocoa flavors)
Optional: sugar & dye free sprinkles https://amzn.to/3NLDYCw, https://amzn.to/4pJROD1
Use a milk steamer or favorite kettle to warm the milk or water to heated, but not boiling.
* ( These two kettles are the BEST! I use them on the daily, depending on what I’m making. https://amzn.to/4pJROD1, https://amzn.to/4sVsP2q ) If using milk, these are really helpful: https://amzn.to/4qQWjMR, https://amzn.to/49m0F8T. However, you can always just warm your milk up in a sauce pan as well.)
Use a mixer with the whisk attachment to mix your COLD whipping cream to medium peaks. Now for those of you who are wondering what the crap “‘medium peaks” means (don’t stress, there’s no shame, you’re still a great person….or maybe you weren’t a great person before you started reading this.. either way, you’re still the same person you were, and now you’ll know what medium and stiff peaks means)
To tell if you have medium peak whipped cream, you would remove the whisk attachment from your stand or hand mixer, dipped it in the cream and then turned the whisk upright, the mound of whipped cream would be bending slightly, whether bending left or right, I’m not sure which way yours will go. There may be some crazy superstitions out there on only using whipped cream whose peaks lean to the right or left, but I believe whichever you end up with, they’re both acceptable.
return the attachment to the mixer and add the extract and sugar replacement. Continue whisking until the cream reaches stiff peaks. Stiff peaks would mean exercising the same routine, only this time the whipped cream would stand straight up off of the whisk. (we don’t even have to worry about it leaning left or right this time) It doesn’t take long for them to transform from medium to stiff, maybe a minute or so, so don’t go crazy and overwhip!
The whip cream can then be placed into a storage container and kept for quick access to multiple cups of delightful Cocoa.

Pour milk into your favorite mug then gradually pour in the scoop of Perk Energy while using a spoon or frother to combined. ( I will say that I have found the frother to be very helpful with the Perk powder to guarantee that it smoothly combines into the milk.( I have this one here and it works great: https://amzn.to/3Nm5ZAz) Continue to mix until the Perk Energy is completely dissolved.
Top the cocoa with a dollop of your pre made whipped cream and add your sprinkles if desired.
Sit back and enjoy majestic morning light…or afternoon sun… or maybe even glowing twilight? (I’m not here to judge) while fueling your body with 22g of protein (if using the milk) plus adding a little boost with 100mg of caffeine and all for 200 calories (whipped topping not included, but hey, for those numbers, you can go ahead an add it.)
Happy Hot Cocoa-in, ya’ll
